Accounting education

Teaching the Next Generation of Accounting Professionals

Practical accounting instruction built on years of experience in corporate finance, accounting leadership, and higher education. My goal is to help students develop confidence, understand accounting concepts, and apply them in real-world business environments.

Teaching philosophy

Accounting Should Be Understood, Not Memorized

I believe accounting is best learned through practical application. Students understand concepts more quickly when they can connect transactions to actual business activity, financial statements, internal controls, and everyday decision-making.

My classroom emphasizes understanding, problem solving, and confidence. I want students to leave each course with more than completed assignments. They should be able to explain what they did, why it matters, and how the same process would work in a professional setting.

I also recognize that many students begin accounting courses with concerns about mathematics or technology. My approach breaks complex processes into manageable steps and reinforces the relationship between each transaction and the accounting equation.

My Classroom Priorities

  • Explain concepts in clear, practical language
  • Connect transactions to financial statements
  • Use realistic business examples
  • Build confidence through guided practice
  • Encourage questions and active participation
  • Prepare students for workplace expectations
